ROOM & BOARD – any agreement for caregiver to live in is OPTIONAL. It is the choice of the caregiver. An employer can offer but the choice belongs to caregiver. per the Immigration / LMIA rules employers can offer LIVE IN accommodation – IF room is offered the employer CAN NOT deduct the costs of room board. Employer only responsible for food and room not for toiletry and personal items.

  • a caregiver would expect to have free room board for 7 days a week.
  • example IF a caregiver stays seven days / nights you can NOT expect them to be home / present UNLESS paid by prior arrangement.   
  • IF caregiver stays somewhere else on days off you do not have to pay for any outside food costs.
